Hey guys! So, Valentine's Day is coming up pretty soon. I, for one, always get excited about this day. Why shouldn't I? This is the day that is dedicated to showing the people around you that you actually care about them. It doesn't have to be for a significant other; it can be for a friend, family member, or anyone really. I think this is why people don't really look forward to this day. Just because you are not in a relationship does not mean you have to spend Valentine's Day alone. You can always spend it with your friends and just come together to hang out. Do something for your mom, or even better yet, your dad! (He'll never see that one coming). My point is, though, don't spend all of Valentine's Day, or the days close to it, complaining about how you'll be "forever alone," and instead make it so that you're NOT alone.

Today (night) I felt like making a poem. Mostly, because it's hard to create a coherent stream of thought. The biggest thing on my mind, though, is this post itself. What makes a post a throwaway? How do I make this post more than some requirement for a grade? Am I just using a different creative device as an excuse for not making a long intricate post? I guess its good that I'm actively posing these questions. Questions are good. I could leave some positive message on life, like how you shouldn't be afraid of trying something different or something like that. But really, that would just be cheapening this post. A post talking about the post itself. I'll end up doing that more in these upcoming weeks, depending on the outcome of the poem.
The Post that Wasn't It's late. There's a storm of thoughts, but I can't think. Staring at a bright screen. It seems like forever. I have to focus. Walk against the wind. Does anyone care about that? Typing comes drizzling. My chair's creaking. It's so quiet. Hesitation. Breath. Go? -Kevin So, we are doing an innovation project, and what we had decided on doing was to basically improve the family/community feeling at our parish. What we have done so far is we have created a few posters that we hope will help improve anyone's spirit if they are having a bad day and just dragging themselves through it, we created a Facebook page that let's people see our progress/goals and to suggest their own ideas on how we can accomplish said goals (I will post the link to the page at the end), we created rough drafts of possible blog posts that we would use for a blog that relates Catholic views to everyday life (especially for teenagers) as soon as we get approval from the youth minister, and we have created a poll that we posted in the Youth Ministry group that our parish has on Facebook asking people what they think of CYF (a gathering for high school students where they can comfortably act in their faith). We are planning on most likely creating a few more posters and are working out a few things before we start on doing more. These are the posters we have created so far. -Post by Kathleen
As the picture above shows, it's girl scout cookie season! The time of year where you eat much more cookies than you usually do! This is also the time of year where girl scouts wish they lifted weights more, because believe it or not, girl scout cookies actually have mass before they go into your body and become fat. Shocking.
I've always wondered though, why other organizations don't develop a similar fundraiser. Those over-priced cookies probably raise a large amount of money for the organization (although I think some of it goes towards Gold Award projects), so why haven't at least boy scouts followed? Just develop some kind of delicious branded treat, and sell when the girl scouts aren't selling. It's been quite a while since I made a post! What happened during this long gap? Nothing much really. Except I watched Frozen. So I guess everything. But you know the best part about a great movie? What comes from the fans afterwards.
I have realized this before, but I never actually wanted to acknowldege it. There will be people who let you down, push you down, and kick you while you're still on the ground. There will be people who bully you and make you feel absolutely worthless. They will make you feel as though your life is pointless and that you have no reason to live. Worst of all, these people can be the very people you are closest to. I want to let you all know that what they say and think about you is not true; what they do to you is only to hide the pain they themselvves are feeling. This may seem impossible, but don't let it affect you. Stay true to who you are and always remember that there is good in you and you matter to someone in this world. No matter what they say or what they do, stand strong. -Post by Kathleen
Seeks Identification. Misunderstood. Needs love. Wants to enjoy life. Driven to Suceed. Loves life. Hates life.
Funny how I've just described the average teenager's high school career, stereotypically speaking of course. But did you notice that this was all Frankenstein wanted too? I tend to watch videos on YouTube a lot, and my favorite channel without question is Jubilee Project. The purpose of this channel is spread awareness of different types of illnesses and disabilities. In this video, a guy is trying to talk to a girl he thinks is cute, but she won't talk to him and so he decides to use a different approach in talking to her. At the end of the video he learns of the reason why she wouldn't talk to him. While watching this video, I was thinking about how similar this is to children. If they want something, they most likely will not give up until they get it. That isn't the only thing that is similar though. Children tend to be more accepting than people who are older than them. They see the world through a more innocent standpoint, and because of this do not discriminate others because of one little thing that makes them different from everyone else. -Post by Kathleen
I was watching a YouTube video earlier, and it got me thinking about how much parents are willing to sacrafice for their children even if they are not appreciated at all. This video is about a single father raising a son, and it is based off of the Bible story "The Prodigal Son." I don't want to give any spoilers so I won't say more about the video but I will post it below. As children we like to believe that our parents will always be there for us and will always love us, but as we grow older, we begin to distance ourselves from them. We think that we can handle ourselves, and that they are wasting their time worrying about us. The truth of the matter is that they only worry because they care and they love us so much they are willing to sacrafice everything they have to see us succeed in life. Why is it so hard for us to appreciate that? And when we finally realize it, it seems as though it is too late. -Post by Kathleen
For something "new" to come along, the idea had to be taken from somewhere else. Whether it be a song, movie, innovational advancements, or whatever, the idea came from another source.
"Original" songs take melodies or something else from songs that are already made, remix them, and claim them as their own. This type of thing also happends in movies. The same type of movies will usually have the same plot line. Take, for example, Disney princess movies. A girl does something to rebel her normal life, meets a boy, falls in love, a complication arrises that separates them, they meet again, and they all live happily ever after. Sound familiar? That's because that plot has been used in most, if not all, of the disney princess movies, or even just fairytales in general. For something to actually be original is nearly impossible since so many little things and tampered with to create that "original" idea. This is not a bad thing, though. It causes for people to be able to move forward in technologies and innovations. The idea of remixing is what pushes mankind forward in life.
