Do you guys remember when we were kids and random, creative ideas came out of our imaginations like fountains? Why can't it still be like that? I know, for me at least, writer's block comes nearly every time I have to write something. Playing pretend as a child is pretty much the same thing as creating a whole different life. When we were younger, ideas came more freely to us than they do now because of a very simple reason. As we grow older, we think more rationally. School, parents, and anything else that influenced us in any way has stuffed reason into our brains, and that reason has taken over our imagination. Some people have reason that only takes over a small part of their imagination while others have lost their creativity completely. We think that just because it isn't something rational or something that can even be considered possible, we can't let our brains wander there. Thinking rationally is most definately not a bad thing at all, but every once in a while, you need to also use your imagination and not just let it rot in a corner in the back of your brain. Excercising your creativity can also be healthy for you. It relaxes you and lets you escape from the harsh realities of the real world for even just a little bit. You have the opportunity to get a break from everything that you have to deal with daily; it's just up to you whether you want to take it or not. What if we could go back to our childhood minds and just let our imaginations soar to wherever and think about whatever? Would that make our lives much more simpler, or would the exact opposite happen and it turns out to complicate our lives even more? I'm not sure, but thinking back on my childhood, my life was so much easier then. There was barely any drama, I didn't have to worry about so many things, and I was able to just go through life happy practically living inside of my mind. As I grew older, though, I started to neglect my creativity and let my imagination crawl into the corner of depression in my mind. So, as of now, I am going to try and use my imagination and just let my mind soar to a world where I can just relax. -Post by Kathleen

Hey guys! So, Valentine's Day is coming up pretty soon. I, for one, always get excited about this day. Why shouldn't I? This is the day that is dedicated to showing the people around you that you actually care about them. It doesn't have to be for a significant other; it can be for a friend, family member, or anyone really. I think this is why people don't really look forward to this day. Just because you are not in a relationship does not mean you have to spend Valentine's Day alone. You can always spend it with your friends and just come together to hang out. Do something for your mom, or even better yet, your dad! (He'll never see that one coming). My point is, though, don't spend all of Valentine's Day, or the days close to it, complaining about how you'll be "forever alone," and instead make it so that you're NOT alone.
So, we are doing an innovation project, and what we had decided on doing was to basically improve the family/community feeling at our parish. What we have done so far is we have created a few posters that we hope will help improve anyone's spirit if they are having a bad day and just dragging themselves through it, we created a Facebook page that let's people see our progress/goals and to suggest their own ideas on how we can accomplish said goals (I will post the link to the page at the end), we created rough drafts of possible blog posts that we would use for a blog that relates Catholic views to everyday life (especially for teenagers) as soon as we get approval from the youth minister, and we have created a poll that we posted in the Youth Ministry group that our parish has on Facebook asking people what they think of CYF (a gathering for high school students where they can comfortably act in their faith). We are planning on most likely creating a few more posters and are working out a few things before we start on doing more. These are the posters we have created so far. -Post by Kathleen
I tend to watch videos on YouTube a lot, and my favorite channel without question is Jubilee Project. The purpose of this channel is spread awareness of different types of illnesses and disabilities. In this video, a guy is trying to talk to a girl he thinks is cute, but she won't talk to him and so he decides to use a different approach in talking to her. At the end of the video he learns of the reason why she wouldn't talk to him. While watching this video, I was thinking about how similar this is to children. If they want something, they most likely will not give up until they get it. That isn't the only thing that is similar though. Children tend to be more accepting than people who are older than them. They see the world through a more innocent standpoint, and because of this do not discriminate others because of one little thing that makes them different from everyone else. -Post by Kathleen
I was watching a YouTube video earlier, and it got me thinking about how much parents are willing to sacrafice for their children even if they are not appreciated at all. This video is about a single father raising a son, and it is based off of the Bible story "The Prodigal Son." I don't want to give any spoilers so I won't say more about the video but I will post it below. As children we like to believe that our parents will always be there for us and will always love us, but as we grow older, we begin to distance ourselves from them. We think that we can handle ourselves, and that they are wasting their time worrying about us. The truth of the matter is that they only worry because they care and they love us so much they are willing to sacrafice everything they have to see us succeed in life. Why is it so hard for us to appreciate that? And when we finally realize it, it seems as though it is too late. -Post by Kathleen
For something "new" to come along, the idea had to be taken from somewhere else. Whether it be a song, movie, innovational advancements, or whatever, the idea came from another source.
"Original" songs take melodies or something else from songs that are already made, remix them, and claim them as their own. This type of thing also happends in movies. The same type of movies will usually have the same plot line. Take, for example, Disney princess movies. A girl does something to rebel her normal life, meets a boy, falls in love, a complication arrises that separates them, they meet again, and they all live happily ever after. Sound familiar? That's because that plot has been used in most, if not all, of the disney princess movies, or even just fairytales in general. For something to actually be original is nearly impossible since so many little things and tampered with to create that "original" idea. This is not a bad thing, though. It causes for people to be able to move forward in technologies and innovations. The idea of remixing is what pushes mankind forward in life. (http://everythingisaremix.info/watch-the-series/) -Post by Kathleen There are so many ideas that we hold inside of our minds that we never let out or even think possible. The very idea that we could make something so vast actually happen seems to be impossible.
Why is it that we do this to ourselves? Why is it so hard for us to believe that maybe it can happen? Maybe we should all take a look at the television show Phineas and Ferb. These two kids create something new every day throughout their summer. Just one of the things that they did was build a rollercoaster in their backyard that went all around the city. Yes. That actually happened. They built a ROLLERCOASTER in their backyard. Now, I know what you're all thinking. "Well, that's just a show; we can't actually do anything like that." True, there's probably no way you can build a rollercoaster in your backyard, but you can do something smaller. Take all of your ideas that are at least somewhat logical, that also does not cause anyone harm, and try to carry them out. You might be surprised of what you create. -Post by Kathleen Most of us don't want to admit it, but organization is extremely important, especially with larger projects. We've all said things such as "Oh, I'll just wing it" or "I'll deal with the problem when it gets here." NO! Thinking like that will make the process so much harder. Having some type of schedule or at least a base plan will save you a lot of time that would have been spent dealing with small details. Having a plan, or a goal, is even shown to be important in Pokémon. Now, you're probably thinking that I'm crazy to even think that Pokémon has anything to do with organization, planning, or even having a goal. Think about it, though. All of Ash's travels, even though they seem random sometimes, have one end goal: to become the world's greatest Pokémon Master. He does everything that he does because he wants to become the world's greatest Pokémon Master, and he knows that he has to do what he is doing to become that. With the current project that I'm working on, it is really important that I, along with the others that I'm working with, to stay on top of things and be organized. If we don't do this, then the whole thing won't turn out as successful as it possibly could, and could even fall apart. We made a schedule that we do our best to follow, and we have our base plan to fall back on if we fall off schedule. So, next time you feel like saying "I'll just wing it," think about how much easier it will be on yourself if you at least have an idea and a plan for what you are doing. Also, if you're a Pokémon fan like I am, remember that to be the very best, you have to know what you want. (The song really doesn't relate to the post much other than it being Pokémon, but I like it so I put it on here).
-Post by Kathleen There will always be things in my life that I will not be able to figure out or deal with by myself. What do I do when these situations come up? It's simple really. All I have to do is ASK OTHER PEOPLE. It's good to get another person's viewpoint if you are stuck on something and can't figure it out. Now I know that many of us (including myself, of course) don't really like to associate with people, but you don't have to talk to everyone about it. I have one person who I go to for everything. (I trust this person with my life). Cinderella's animal friends saw that she will most likely not be able to attend the ball even though her stepmother said she could since she was practically buried in chores. Because of this, the animals took initiative and made her a dress for the ball while she does her chores. She didn't ask them to do this, but they saw that she needed their help. Teamwork goes both ways, so if you notice that someone needs help with something, offer a hand and reach out to others. If you help others, there will be more people there that are willing to help you when you need it. -Post by Kathleen
